YCA Judging 2020.

This year I was honoured to be a part of the judging panel for the Young Creative Awards 2020- for the Fashion and Textiles Category. It was such a wonderful experience to see all the fantastic submissions.

I am now very pleased to share the winners whom we selected below + our comments!

• Dante Campbell - 11-15 age group

  “The judges thought Dante showed great creativity and experimentation with the development of his collection of up cycled and customised clothing. We were impressed by how much work he put into producing and documenting such expressive pieces, and look forward to seeing what’s next for Dante”

• Emma Filby - 16-18 age group

  “The judges thought Emma’s “Scrap Couture” evening wrap – which incorporates recycled and scrap materials – showed a young designer with a real passion for fashion. We were very impressed by the well explained process, extensive research undertaken, the wide range of techniques used, and the detailed finish.”

• Isabel Hambly - 19-24 age group (joint winner)

  “We found it so hard to choose a winner from all the incredible submissions for the 19-24 category; so much so that we decided to award joint winners! Our first winner is Isabel, who designed a beautifully detailed denim womenswear collection inspired by British coastal towns and the workwear of fishermen. We were impressed by the in-depth research, precise finish, and unique, commercially minded designs, which incorporated sustainable fabrics and striking prints.”

• Jiahan Zhuang - 19-24 age group (joint winner)

  “Our final Fashion and Textiles winner is Jiahan Zhuang, who joint-won in the 19-24 age group. Taking inspiration from the film ‘The Boxtrolls’, Jiahan took a quirky and comical concept and created a menswear collection which is sophisticated, modern and very cool. We were struck by the beautiful sketches, the professional level of photography and styling, and the detailing of the garments. We all felt it was a very impressive piece of work.”
