As a huge emerging trend at the time of this project, my focus fell heavily on geology and mineralogy as inspiration, as I explored marbling, iridescent surfaces and rock strata. For the first time, I began to angle my work more directly towards fashion based outcomes, researching and taking inspiration from lots of high end brands. I found Delpozo highly inspirational with their contemporary embroidery developments using sequin stacking, and Christopher Kane’s SS14 show featured heavily in my research with the use of the pastel hued marbled Angelina fibres trapped under clear plastic.

My finished collection featured a jewel-toned and pastel colour palette with pops of acidic brights and a range of richly embellished tactile surfaces utilising the creation of my own beads/ sequins and applique components which I made by hand using materials such as polymer clay, plastics, hand painted satin and melted wax.

I also utilised digital machine embroidery to transfer some of my drawing into more commercial outcomes. I developed Geode embroidery repeats, rock strata layering and geometric quilting designs, with small highlights of hand embroidery added to the surface.
